Satyananda Yoga for the Immune System
Tuesdays 7-8:30pm, July 8th - August 12th (6 classes) $99
During this short series we will be exploring all aspects
of the immune system and the techniques that help to balance and
strengthen it. We shall use case studies to help with discussion and
deeper understanding of the class material. The aim is to provide an
understanding of the immune system, why it needs to be kept healthy and
ways of doing this.
The Satyananda levels 1, 2 and 3
all comprise the basic foundation of knowledge of asana (postures),
pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation, required before moving
onto the intermediate Satyananda courses.
Satyananda Yoga course, level 1

This
course introduces the
Satyananda approach to hatha yoga by exploring its first three series
of
practices. These look to loosen and strengthen all joints, facilitate
good digestion, remove energy blockages and aid concentration, allowing
the body to be freed up for the practices of the following courses. The
Satyananda approach to Surya Namaska (Sun salutations) is also explored.
This is an excellent course for beginners as well as advanced students looking
to deepen their personal practice. It is a beneficial supplement to any training
regime as well as assisting in recovery from illness or injury.
"Asana Pranayama Mudra
Bandha" by Swami Satyananda Saraswati and published by Bihar School of Yoga is the recommended reading for this course.
Level 1 is the
pre-requisite for the level 2 courses.
Satyananda Yoga course, level 2 a
Details to come
Using
the knowledge
and experience of level I, and the
Vajrasana (kneeling) series is
introduced. Surya Namaska is developed with the intention of using it
as an anchor practice within a regimen, and exploring fundamental
principles of body
movement and dynamics. The vajrasana group is used to explore the
individual practices within Surya Namaska, the major benfit of the
Vajrasana group being the vitalisation of all major
organs.
The pranayama (breathing techniques) practices of Nadi Shodhana and Bhramari are also deepened.
This is a
pre-requisite to the level II b course.

Vidya" by Swami Satyananda Saraswati and published by Bihar School of Yoga is the recommended reading for the level 2 courses.
Satyananda Yoga course, level 2 b
Details to come
This course intensifies the use of Surya
Namaska and completes the exploration of the Vajrasana group. The
Chandra Namasaka (moon Salutations) series is introduced, along with
the deepening experience of the breath within our
practice, through the use of Ujjayi pranayama.
Level 2b is the
pre-requisite for the level III courses.
Satyananda Yoga course, level 3 a
Details to come
Building on the knowledge and experience of level II, the Satyananda standing
series of practices is introduced. These help with stretching and
strengthening of the back, shoulders and leg muscles. As a series it also aims
to aid the improvement of posture, balance and muscular
coordination.
Principles of pranayama given in level II are expanded upon as well as
the introduction of the first stages of Yoga Nidra, to bring an awareness to the relationships between the body, breath and
mind.
This course also includes a 1 hour private session, to assist with
developing a personal practice and to answer any personal questions about the
course.

Psychology" by Rishi Vivekanada Saraswati and published by Bihar School
of Yoga is the recommended reading for the level 3 courses.
Satyananda Yoga course, level 3 b
Details to come
Continuing with the exploration of the standing series, a deepening of
the internal experience is aimed for so as to strengthen our knowledge
and understanding of the bodies inner mechanisms and how they function
together in prder to provide integrated movement.
The relationship between outer and inner vision is also explored,
showing the effects of both on our mental and emotional states and our
ability to focus and concentrate in our external and internal worlds.
Level 3b is the pre-requisite for the intermediate level courses.
Satyananda Yoga course, Intermediate level

Using the foundation
knowledge accumulated through levels I, II and III, a variety of asanas
(postures), pranayama (breathing technique), mudra (gestures) and
meditation practices practices are introduced and explored with every
moon phase. Basic principles of Ayurveda and Jyotisha are also
introduced to give a wider physiological, psychological and
philosophical perspective on Satyananda Yoga, on Yoga in the wider sense and on life.
When embarking on the intermediate level, it is assumed that all students have a daily personal practice.
The intermediate level is the pre-requisite for the advanced level course.
Satyananda Yoga course, Advanced level

Continuing to develop a wider vocabulary of practices with tools and techniques taken from the
advanced series, the focus is firmly with the internal work required to
experience the deeper dimensions of asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha and
meditation practices. This course can be considered a foundation
for kriya sadhana.
Entry onto this course is by invitation only.
YOGA NIDRA
Satyananda Yoga Nidra Course, level 1
Details to come
An ancient tantric
meditation developed for modern times by Swami Satyananda. Done
lying down, thirty minutes practice of Yoga Nidra, is the equivalent to four hours
of deep
sleep in terms of rejuvenation and regeneration experienced on
all levels of our being. The result is a focusing of the mind, balancing of the emotions,
revitalisation of energy as well as the relaxation of the physical body.
Each session of this course will cover one of the stages of the
practice, so that an in-depth knowledge is gradually developed to allow
an expansion of ones experience of relaxation, focus and rejuvenation.
You will be introduced to the infinite potentials that this practice
can open up through instruction and discussion, gaining clear insight
into how Yoga Nidra can benefically change your life.
